Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying correct techniques and methods for loading and unloading a car carrier

applying eco-driving techniques

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards

checking and replenishing fluids and carrying out lubrication processes

communicating effectively with others

completing relevant documentation

identifying requirements for accepting correct vehicle for cartage

interpreting and following operational instructions and prioritising work

loading vehicles to ensure:

overhang does not exceed 1.2 meters at front or rear of vehicle

they do not touch each other during transit

they are loaded in reverse sequence of planned unloading sequence

adjustments are made when loading commercial vehicles

making accurate estimates in a range of situations

monitoring and anticipating traffic hazards and taking appropriate action

monitoring performance of vehicle, its trailers and its equipment and taking appropriate action as required

operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with operating procedures

reading and interpreting relevant procedures, information and signs

selecting and using required personal protective equipment conforming to industry and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards

servicing vehicle and its equipment in terms of maintenance schedule and standard operating procedures

working collaboratively with others

working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

customer requirements when delivering cars

driving hazards and related defensive driving techniques

efficient driving techniques and eco-driving considerations

engine power management and safe driving strategies

factors involved in trip preparation

factors that may cause traffic delays and diversions, and related action that can be taken

heavy vehicle handling procedures

load restraint guide

loading and unloading techniques for car carrying

relevant legislation and workplace procedures

WHS/OHS operational procedures

workplace documentation

workplace driving and operational instructions.
